Floor Prep Cleaners

Etch N' Clean solution is a phosphoric acid solution with cleaning properties. It is designed to clean bare concrete surfaces as well as roughen up the surface. Depending on how hard your concrete is or how smooth will dictate how well the Etch N' Clean preps your surface. It is a mild acid solution that is a better cleaner than an etcher. For substrates that have a slick surface (aka steel trowelled or power trowelled), we recommended muriatic acid instead. Muriatic Acid is a better etcher than a cleaner, so it will roughen the surface better. Muriatic acid cannot be shipped but can be purchased locally (swimming pool supply stores or "big box" hardware stores). It must be used with care, so if your concrete requires muriatic acid, follow this tutorial.

TSP (Tri-Sodium Phoshate) is a concrete cleaner powdered solution that serves as a pre-paint cleaner. It is most often used on previously painted surfaces as a heavy-duty degreaser. Sand your previously coated surface to degloss and roughen. Clean with TSP and allow to dry.

Blue Bear 500 MR (formerly called Bean E Doo) is a soy-based mastic remover. It is safe to use in any application and is used to remove the adhesive and mastic left behind on concrete after tile removal. Epoxies cannot bond to mastic. Blue Bear 500 MR especially shines when used to apply black mastic, which cannot be removed by a floor grinder. Once Blue Bear 500 MR has been applied and the mastic has been scraped away, the substrate still needs to be cleaned to remove the residue (use the etch n' clean solution or TSP). If the concrete is smooth, then it will need to be etched as well.  

Blue Bear 600 GL (formely called Soy Gel) is a soy based coatings remover that strips paint, epoxy and urethane. Most strippers can not destroy heavy coatings like epoxy and urethane, but 600 GL can. It is safe to use in any application. Once the coating has been removed, you will still need to make sure the concrete is clean and etched. Grind the concrete or use an acid wash to remove the residue of the Soy Gel.
