Sikaflex Self Leveling Sealant FAQs

Sikaflex self-leveling sealant seals floors and horizontal surfaces, providing lasting protection from water damage, mold growth, stress, and more. At Original Color Chips, we only offer high-performance products like the Sikaflex self-leveling sealant for the best results possible.

What is Sikaflex Self-Leveling Sealant Used for?

A sealant is a substance used to close or seal gaps between building materials and concrete floors to make them airtight and watertight. A sealant seals joints where different materials meet, smooths surfaces, and stops air, water, and pests from getting through.

You can use Sikaflex self-leveling sealant to seal:

  • Floors
  • Driveways
  • Balconies
  • Factories
  • Plazas
  • Windows
  • Sidewalks

The Sika self-leveling sealant temperature ideal for application is 40 to 100 °F.

How Long Does it Take for Sika Self-Leveling Sealant to Cure?

The Sika self-leveling sealant cure time is about three to five days until the chemical reaction is complete. When the Sika self-leveling sealant is fully cured and dry, it will have maximum strength and a flexible, elastic consistency. We suggest allowing seven days of cure time before coating with epoxy.

How Long Does it Take for Sika Self-Leveling Sealant to Dry?

The Sika self-leveling sealant's dry time is about three to five days.

What is the Difference Between Self-Leveling and Non-Leveling Sealant?

Self-leveling sealants are substances that start out soft before expanding, self-leveling, and hardening into the cracks and joints to seal them securely. This is why this type of sealant is typically used for horizontal surfaces like floors.

A non-self-leveling sealant must be manually spread because it doesn’t spread or expand on its own with gravity. It works best on vertical surfaces because the sealant won’t run down the surface.

How Do You Remove Sika Self-Leveling Sealant Residue?

You might be wondering how to remove Sika self leveling sealant from concrete or how to remove residue. If it’s uncured, first, you’ll need to scrape off as much as you can with a putty knife. Next, open a window to ventilate the room and pour mineral spirits or Sika Remover 208 solvents onto a wet rag to dissolve the sealant before it cures. Ring out the rag so it doesn’t drip and scrub in a circular motion.

If it’s cured, you’ll have to wear thick work gloves and use a sharp blade to scrape it off. Protect your eyes from any dust or debris when scraping.

Can You Put Sand Over Sika Self Leveling Sealant?

It’s not recommended to put sand over the Sika self-leveling sealant because the sealant may not work as well.

Can You Use Sika Self-Leveling Sealant on Plywood?

It’s typically not recommended to use Sika self-leveling sealant on plywood because plywood can absorb water and cause it to expand. The sealant could warp part of the floor or leave a void if it expands.

Can You Paint Over Sika Self-Leveling Sealant?

Yes, you can paint over Sika self-leveling sealant with the most common paints, but you should wait until the sealant is fully cured for the best results.
